The French Press Guide

History

Though, as the name suggests, the French Press was originally conceived in the minds of a couple of Frenchmen back in 1852, the Cafetière as we know it today was actually patented by an Italian duo by the names of Attilio Calimani and Giulio Moneta more than 70 years later in 1928.

Since then, the French Press has become arguably the most popular home brewing device ever made. It can not only produce great tasting results, but has a simple and forgiving brewing process that makes it perfect for those that want to make great coffee with ease; ideal for beginners and connoisseurs alike.

Method:

  1. Place your coffee into your French Press and place onto scales, then tare.

  2. Pour your desired amount of boiling water over the grounds, making sure they are fully saturated. Leave to settle for 2 minutes.

  3. Break up the crust that has formed on top, letting the grounds settle to the bottom.

  4. Place the lid on top of the French Press and slowly but firmly depress the plunger.

  5. Allow the coffee to settle for as long as you can (6-8 minutes is perfect).

  6. Gently pour your coffee, attempting not to disturb the ground coffee at the bottom of the Cafetière for a smoother brew.
