The Moka Pot Guide
History
In 1933, an engineer from Piedmont by the name of Luigi Di Ponti created a pressurised percolation brewer designed to replicate espresso, something unachievable at the time within the home.
He partnered up with local aluminium producer Alfonso Bialetti to produce their device and named their creation after city of Mocha in Yemen; birthplace of the global coffee trade .
Alfonso’s son, Renato Bialetti took his father’s legacy and brought the Moka pot into the homes of millions through mass production and the iconic character styled after himself of ‘L'omino coi Baffi’ or ‘The little man with the moustache’ emblazoned on the side of Bialetti pots.
Renato Died in 2016 and his ashes were buried in a large replica of his iconic Moka Pot.
